Immigrant Patriotism: House Manderly are, by Northern standards, a new house (the house itself is old, but they've been northmen only a few centuries), yet despite their Southron origins and their worship of the Seven, they are almost fanatically loyal to the land, its traditions, and their lords.

In short the Blackwoods are the Manderlys reversed. The Blackwoods originated in the North but settled in the Riverlands, where they continue to worship the Old Gods and are the only house in the South explicitly stated to do so.

Foil: To House Blackwood, though this is never really discussed.

Eventually, the Peakes drove the Manderlys out of the Reach. When King Garth X Greybeard died this escalated into civil war, as both Houses had married one of his daughters.

Feuding Families: Had a fierce rivalry with the Peakes when they lived in the Reach.

Lord Wyman himself is still an elegant dancer in his youth he was a knight of no small skill, and his similarly rotund sons are brave and effective soldiers. Despite being mostly obese, the Manderly men are noted to be worthy in battle.

Lord Wyman is so fat he can no longer ride a horse, and his sons are going in the same direction. They seem to have a genetic predisposition toward obesity. They have several lesser houses sworn to them along with more than a hundred landed knights, allowing them to field more soldiers than any other House in the North. They are known for Undying Loyalty to the Starks, always citing the Starks' initial open-handedness to them as the reason, and are the only Seven-worshipping major House in the North, their exile having occurred after the Andal invasion. There, they were taken under the protection of House Stark and given control of the Wolf's Den (the former seat of the extinct and rebellious House Greystark), eventually building the city of White Harbor and raising the New Castle as their seat. Originally a Southron House located in the Reach, several centuries ago the Manderlys were driven from their seat of Dunstonbury due to their growing wealth and power threatening House Gardener's rule and fled north.
